Three Gables Guesthouse

We stayed here with friends on our way to and from the Kalahari transnational park. I only regret that Lana’s guesthouse is so far from home. Her place is warm and welcoming, and she has a great sense of humor. She greeted us with tea, coffee and a little pastry, offered to pick up the pizza we’d ordered, and made excellent breakfasts on both mornings. I asked about Bain's whiskey, the only whiskey distilled on the African continent (?), on our first night. Without me asking, Lana went and got a bottle for the next day, since it was Sunday and the liquor stores were closed. I paid her for it, of course. In 30 years of traveling the world, we’ve never had service and thoughtfulness quite like this. She seemed to go out of her way for us, though I suspect she treats every guest that way.

After a hot day in Upington, the swimming pool is a welcome extra, and the garden is lush and well cared for. The cottage was clean and beautiful, with everything we needed. The setting is lovely, and the hosts made us feel special and welcome. One of the best guesthouses I’ve stayed in.

Lana was an exquisite hostess, with a warm smile and such a friendly personality. The way she chooses and presents the food makes the place feel like home. My husband and I had an amazing time at this beautiful, breathtaking and peaceful venue. The couple have created a tranquil atmosphere where guests feel welcome.

We stayed here for the second time, about eight years after our first visit, and I can’t recommend it more highly for an overnight stop. Lana runs this lovely B&B with a sharp eye for detail and a real understanding of how to look after customers. She’s a consummate professional, and nothing seems too much trouble. Simply brilliant.
