Fairy Knowe Hotel

The setting is hard to beat. The hotel sits beside the Touwsriver, where you can watch birds and other animals from the well-kept grassy riverbank. There’s also a bird hide nearby, and I saw some beautiful birds this morning. Guests were enjoying the outdoor pool, and the vegetable garden beside the hotel looked well cared for. I spotted tomatoes, lettuce, and mielies, among other things. I haven’t stayed overnight, so I can’t comment on the rooms or service, though time seems to show a long record of dedication to detail and good service. It’s a great hotel, and I don’t understand the three-star rating. I’d give it five, or 10/10, for showing locals and visitors from abroad what local is lekker is all about. It could make a great travel blog to cover the rooms and service too.

I left disappointed and without a refund, after never getting a usable room. The experience ruined my day, and I can’t recommend this hotel. It fell short on basic cleanliness and service. I arrived at 11 AM, although I knew check-in wasn’t until 3 PM, and spent the time at the pool. I ordered a pizza that was rock-hard and inedible. I sent it back and declined a replacement, but they brought another one anyway. At 3 PM I went to my room and found there was no hot water. The front desk gave me a key to a different room, but that room hadn’t been cleaned: the bed was unmade and used towels were still hanging in the bathroom. By then I was frustrated that my whole afternoon had gone on these problems. Reception wanted to check a third room, but I no longer felt comfortable staying there. I asked for a refund and they refused.

The meals and venue were five-star quality, and I really enjoyed my stay. Thanks for the hospitality and good service throughout the week. All the staff were friendly and helped us whenever we needed it. Keep up the excellent work.

This was my first time at Fairy Knowe, and I loved every minute. The rooms were spacious, clean, and neat, and the food was good every day. Staff were always helpful, attentive, and respectful. It’s set in beautiful surroundings by the river, with lovely evening sunsets. The riverbank walks felt pleasant, safe, and peaceful.
