Horrible stay. We got there just after the storm and needed somewhere to recover from the heavy downpours and the flooded road to the lodge. The dirty carpeted rooms stank, and there were clipped dirty nails and hair all over.

The room was clean, well equipped, and adequate, and it was good value for money. The toilet being behind the bathroom door takes a little getting used to. The hostess was super friendly.

Susan and Louis, the owners, were friendly and helpful, and our room had what we needed. It was cleaned every day, and we found the place pleasant enough during our six-night stay. But the noise made it a very disappointing experience in the end. The rooms are joined by doors with no soundproofing, so we could hear the neighbours talking day and night. One night we could hear the people next door fighting while we were trying to sleep. The property is also on Winterton’s main road, with traffic noise even at night. It felt like being back in the city. When the situation became unbearable, we gave up the seventh night even though we’d paid for it. The owner didn’t seem to care and seemed unable to keep the noise under control. There’s definitely room for improvement.

We stayed at Lilac Lodge in Winterton recently, and our room was much better than we expected after seeing some lukewarm reviews. It was spotless and well equipped, with charming old-fashioned touches like rolled towels and antique door knobs. The bed was very comfortable, the linens were fresh and clean, and there were plenty of blankets to stay warm at night. We were greeted warmly too, which made the visit even nicer. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed, and I’d recommend Lilac Lodge for a cozy stay in Winterton.

The unit had a strange smell, and the house was freezing. There weren’t enough electric blankets for all the beds. The linen was disappointing and the towels need replacing. For a self-catering place, the equipment for cooking your own meals was substandard.
