Hotel Astor

It might have been a four-star hotel in its day, but now it's quite run down. The room itself is pretty good, though the hairdryer doesn't work, the minibar doesn't cool, and the Wi-Fi might as well not be there. The food feels like no effort went into it. There's no salt, which could be fixed by adding some, but the meat that's supposed to come with sauce doesn't even have half an onion. Everything is very sparse. The chicken and rice barely has any onion or seasoning either. It would be fine for a hospital. We came because we bought a package that included dinner, but it wasn't worth it. You eat better at a street stall.

The manager was friendly from the start, and the place is spacious. My room had a little dampness left by previous residents, but nothing serious. It's centrally located and works as a residential hotel for people new to Argentina. I recommend it for that.

The rooms are small, despite looking spacious in the photo, and the view is over the city. This doesn't really operate as a hotel where you can just arrive and book a week, for example. It seems more like a hostel, with shared areas such as the kitchen, and a place for monthly stays. Prices are affordable, and the arrangement is informal, with no contract or guarantees. It's quiet, has free Wi-Fi and a nice terrace, and is only a block from lots of bus stops. Kiosks and restaurants are nearby, as is beautiful Lezama Park.
