The manager was friendly and happy to help, but I left after just one night of a two-night booking because the facilities didn’t make for a comfortable stay. Room 5 seemed overdue for repainting and a proper deep clean. The mattress was so worn that when I lay down, I sank into it like a cocoon. My towel had been white, but was now grey with yellow stains. There was a stale smell of cigarette smoke and dust, and since the room was beside the kitchen and common room, I could hear everything and couldn’t rest. Breakfast was a croissant and a bread roll with jam or Nutella if you wanted it. The roll was so dry it crumbled in my hands, which made up my mind to find somewhere else. I was also charged 21% VAT, although Booking.com said it wouldn’t be charged if I paid by card and provided documentation. The manager said Booking.com “not understanding the situation” was the reason. My next accommodation didn’t charge VAT, and cost less for much better facilities. I’d usually bring the issues with the room to management, but these felt like long-running problems that wouldn’t be fixed. Older reviews make it sound as if this hostel had its best days already. The facilities now don’t meet what travellers should expect, and I’d avoid it since there are better choices for both cost and facilities.

Jorge the owner was one of the kindest people, and he was amazing. The rest was a mixed bag. The room was dark as a cave, and the nearby bathroom wasn’t working. It seemed like family or friends were always using the place, but they weren’t very social. People watched TV loudly in the common areas all the time, and you could hear it from the rooms. It’s cheap, but I saw other places for the same price with balconies and nice sunlight, so there’s better value elsewhere. It wasn’t social while I was there. If light and a social atmosphere don’t matter to you, this place is fine.

There’s potential in this cute little hostel. The area felt safe and was well located, and the rooms and toilet were clean. Staff were welcoming, and they let me into my room at 10 in the morning. Coffee and breakfast were included, too. The downside was the noise from the rooms and facilities. My bed was downstairs by the terrace, and I could hear every word people said. The bed also squeaked whenever I moved.

Jorge, the owner, knew a lot about Aconcagua and helped us get our plans sorted before we left to summit the mountain for three weeks. When we came back to Mendoza, he kindly let us hang out at the hostel that afternoon while we waited for our evening flight. The staff and guests were all helpful and kind. Great location, and it felt safe and comfortable.

Javier (the owner) was fantastic with us. He answered every question we sent on WhatsApp and was even more helpful in person. We felt really welcome. It’s a bit of a walk from the main square, but if you don’t mind walking, this place is perfect!
