Altstadthotel Kasererbraeu

Simon, the desk manager, went well beyond what we could have hoped for when our luggage failed to arrive with us. He did everything he could to speed up its arrival. I’d have no hesitation recommending the hotel and hope to return. It was ideally located for exploring the old city and Christmas market. Our rooms were just what we needed, clean, comfortable, and quiet, and we also had a lovely hot breakfast.

The location is just a few metres from dompatz and Residenzplatz, the two main Christmas market spots, and the suite had a nice bathtub. The heating worked really well. The rooms feel very old and run down, and the daily cleaning wasn’t precise. The mattress was so thin I could feel the wooden bed frame, and the shower drain didn’t work. Most staff didn’t speak English. It also lacked the kind of services you’d expect at a 4 star hotel, like luggage brought to your room, a good minibar, staff available 24/7, or attention to detail.

The front desk staff were polite and friendly, and our room was quiet and very clean, with a comfortable bed. Hotel Kasererbrau is in the old town of Strazburg, within walking distance of lots of interesting historical sites. A great base for exploring Strazburg.

We were so disappointed as soon as we arrived that we simply asked for our money back, but the front desk couldn’t help us at all. The manager was on vacation and hadn’t put anyone in charge of handling his duties, so we were left with no options. That’s unacceptable. The hotel looked bad inside and out, and was lacking in service, quality, amenities, and location. The rooms were small, had no air conditioning, and looked straight at another building just one meter away. All that for a hefty price. I really recommend staying somewhere else.
