Itzlingerhof Rooms

The location was the one good point, very close to the main train station with a city bus stop right outside. But the place felt disorganized and didn’t seem to consider what would work best for arriving guests. We were travelling with a child and got an apartment on the first floor, with no escalator or convenient way to get a trolley up. The beds were dirty, with spiders running around, the bathroom door was broken, and the room door handles were damaged.

Don’t book unless it’s the cheapest option and you only need a bed that smells like an ashtray. We paid 200€ for one night for four people, expecting two king beds, but got a tiny room with one bed and a futon. It seemed like a one-bed room with the couch folded out to fit four. The whole hotel smelled of smoke, covered up with aerosol scents. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and the shower was moldy. They also don’t offer breakfast, which is frustrating for a hotel with a restaurant. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The staff, especially the receptionist, have a busy job. Her manner came across as brusque to me, coming from another culture, but she was friendly and fun once you got past that. The standard double was a good size, with a nice square shower cubicle, and breakfast was tasty with lots of choices. The hotel is clean and convenient, and does a five-star job of being the modest place it says it is. There’s a bus stop at the door, nearby bars, restaurants, a bakery, and takeaways, plus the central bus and train station is a ten-minute walk away or you can take the number 3 or 5 bus. Good value.

The manager did their best to smooth things over when our booking from the Chase credit card portal hadn’t reached the hotel right away, so check-in was delayed a little. The queen bed was comfortable, and splitting the room between two people made it affordable. Breakfast being included helped with the value, though the room itself wasn’t anything special. Then our lamp came apart about five minutes after we switched it on. It had been taped together before, and I guess the bulb’s heat made the ceramic expand and the tape glue melt.
