Oaks Brisbane on Felix Suites

We paid $414 for room 362 on the 36th floor. It was clean, and the Storybridge view was beautiful. We'd booked two bedrooms with two singles and one king bed. The staff were lovely and accommodating.

The pool and spa were refreshing, but both badly need maintenance and updating. The sign at the pool made me laugh. Parking was a daily $45 extra, which surprised me for the price of the apartment, and the car park was a nightmare in my SUV. I had a hard time avoiding the concrete posts, and some corners needed a five-point turn. There was no parking included. Staff were friendly throughout, and they accommodated our extra guest with a foldaway bed for $59 a night. The two-bedroom apartment had an outdated style and a strange cleaning smell. We asked for a balcony room to watch the river fireworks on NYE, but a huge building blocked most of the view. The main bedroom bed was very comfortable, but the ensuite was cramped, with a small corner shower cubicle and a disappointing shower head. There was air conditioning and fans throughout, though the balcony air conditioner leaked, leaving a puddle and soggy mat.

For over $300, I expected a much better standard. The room was dated and worn, the bathroom smelled strongly of drains, and there wasn't even a TV in the bedroom. The main TV kept freezing, so watching anything was impossible. Parking was tricky, particularly for larger vehicles. I also wasn't told about the major construction across the road, which carried on late into the night and made it hard to relax.

I left my AirPods in the room and live down on the Gold Coast, so I called the front office. They took my number and had the Cleaning Manager check the room. A few hours later, I got an email saying they'd found them and would ship them back at no charge. Great service. I'll definitely come back.
