Moondarra Motel

The room was disgusting for what we paid for one night. There was mould on the walls, dust on the AC, and the towels were dirty. The sheets felt dirty too, so I couldn't sleep. After checkout, I was accused of smoking in the room, though surely that would have set off the smoke alarms if I had.

You can walk to most businesses in Innisfail from here. The rooms were clean, quiet and comfortable, and Jim was friendly. I booked direct with Jim, the proprietor, and it was cheaper than going through Trivago and similar sites. He let me keep my dog tied to the post outside my room, and even checked whether I needed milk for my coffee in the morning. I'd stay again.

The location was great, though the rooms were old fashioned. We were given a discount, but the manager's treatment of my adult daughter and her BF was really inappropriate. He accused them of smoking when they hadn't, called my 21 daughter and son-in-law liars, and said he'd seen them on camera and was watching our rooms. It felt wrong to know we were being monitored. He was rude and bullied my daughter and BF. He should have raised his concerns with us, their parents, instead of speaking to them that way. We had disclosed our small dog and made sure the manager knew it would be locked in the vehicle. He told my daughter that if he'd known beforehand, he wouldn't have let us stay.

A relaxed, country-style place with that simple old motel feel, and great customer service. The owners and staff were friendly and extremely helpful, and went out of their way to accommodate us. It was awesome value for money, and we'll definitely stay again. The room was a good size, with a car park right outside the door, clean rooms, efficient air con, and a decent kitchen setup for cooking, including good-sized bins and a sink. Shops were close by if we needed to buy anything. I also appreciated the proper shower door, instead of the half doors we've seen around North Queensland that let water spill across the bathroom floor. It had everything we could want in a motel.
