I was lucky to find a room as a walk-in when Kalgoorlie was pretty much booked out. The motel is mainly used by the mining industry, and they charged me a reasonable standard rate. Staff were friendly and helpful, and made me feel welcome even though I was extra work for them. It’s an older motel, but well maintained and very clean. The bed was fresh and comfortable, and the shower had hot water and good pressure. The air conditioner worked well and kept the room comfortable, though it could have been quieter. I didn’t get to try the restaurant, but suspect it delivers what it promises. A nice place to stay.

The place was clean enough, but I couldn’t use the laundry. The machines were full of workers’ clothes, and the dryers were for staff only. For businesses offering their staff a package deal, that was disappointing. The prepared meals had a poor selection, and the fruit was old and unappetizing. Given what they charge, I expected better.
I was at the Midas for work for a week. The room was large, the bed very comfortable, and the shower was nice and hot. They provide food, which is actually really good, and lunch as well for the person working. The Midas staff, especially the kitchen team, are always happy to see you, kind and very helpful.
We took the train to Kalgoorlie for our wedding anniversary. Our first night together all those years ago was on the train to Kalgoorlie on the way to Melbourne, so it felt special. After seven hours on the Prospector, we were welcomed at the Midas Motel front desk and checked in easily. The service when booking had been friendly and helpful too. In the room, we found a lovely handwritten card acknowledging our anniversary, chocolate mints and a bottle of wine. How they knew it was one of our favourites, I don’t know. We’ve stayed at hotels and motels across Australia and overseas many times for work, and this was by far the best experience, well beyond expectations. Well done to Hayley and her fantastic staff.
The food was very good, the rooms were tidy, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. But the pillowcases clearly hadn’t been changed, yuck, and the main problem was getting a proper night’s sleep. Thursday night is bin night, and the bins are lined up about 10 meters from the rooms. They woke me around sunrise on Friday. You need uninterrupted sleep to arrive safely at your next destination, and this place didn’t provide it. When I checked out, I was told the bins are picked up on any given day too.
