We only stayed one night and wished we could have stayed longer. Art Hotel on York really stands out, and we’d highly recommend it. The room was beautiful, comfortable, spotless and well maintained. WiFi worked perfectly, always handy when travelling, and the pillows and mattress were some of the best we’ve had. Good sleep matters a lot to us, and we slept so well. Service was wonderful too. The gentleman at reception was polite, friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even nicer. We travel quite a lot, so have plenty to compare it with.

The room was neat and clean, and shops, parks and the gorge are all close by. The only downside was the narrow stairs and no lift, so we had to haul our bags up several flights. At least it was a workout for the legs.

The rooms are nice, which makes it a pity that I won’t stay again. There’s only free-to-air TV, and I couldn’t connect my phone to watch anything else. For the price, that lack of basic technology isn’t good enough. The building feels stuck in the 18th century too, though the TV issue would be easy to fix.

I had a really nice stay, and the bed was very comfortable. It’s a central little hotel with friendly staff. The ensuite was very clean, but a bit quirky, with the toilet tucked into a very narrow opening. That’s why I’d give it four stars instead of five.
