There’s a parking space at the rear, and the living room is very large, with a balcony and all the amenities we needed. Just keep in mind that access to the second level is by stairs only. The location is spot on for getting to everything Lorne has to offer. And please don’t feed the cockatoos, it’s bad for their health.

This is still our favourite place to stay in Lorne, with perfect views, especially from the top floors. It’s right on the main drag but set back enough that it doesn’t feel oppressive, and we’ll be back. It used to be the old squash courts, converted with an architect-designed fit-out that felt hip and a bit experimental. The experiment didn’t quite work in the bathrooms, though. It’s been renovated since, but now feels more humdrum, especially with the corny seascape watercolour in the bedroom. Still wonderful, all the same.

For the price, you can do much better. There’s no dishwasher, the kitchen is very dark and the decor is sparse. Vehicles going past to the hardware shop make the bedroom noisy in the morning. There’s no Foxtel or Netflix either. On the good side, the bed in apt 5 looked new and was comfortable, and there were plenty of towels.

We enjoyed our stay and would come back. The amenities are basic, but there’s everything you might need, and it was clean. The location is great, with easy access to the main street.
