The friendly staff, safe feeling, quiet rooms, and well equipped apartment were the strongest points for me. The laundry facilities were brilliant, and it was easy to use my own streaming apps on the TV. The pool itself was lovely, though it wasn’t always clean when we visited. It was closed most of our stay, as was the gym, and we hadn’t been warned. Building work nearby also left the pool area filthy when it was open in the evening. At first, the modern room and city views made a good impression. As the week went on, I noticed that the floor inside the apartment and the corridor outside weren’t clean. Other guests’ hair kept sticking to my feet, so I had to wear slippers. The bathroom smelled odd and didn’t feel clean, with mould in the shower and a discoloured toilet seat. The bedroom air conditioning wasn’t effective either. Lift work meant waits of more than five minutes whenever we called one, and sometimes it stopped at the wrong floor. I also couldn’t hear anything from neighboring rooms, so the soundproofing was very good. It was a decent hotel, but I’m unsure how it got a 5-star rating. Maybe the system is different from London or Europe, but it didn’t feel like refined 5-star accommodation to me.

The location was the only good part of our stay. I’d requested slippers before we arrived, but none were available. It may sound minor, but it says a lot about how basic requests are handled. The cleanliness was far worse. There was dust in the room, and a cockroach appeared on the bed. This was on the 21st floor, which made it even more unbelievable. We stayed at other hotels in Melbourne on the same trip and found neither bugs nor dust there, so being in Australia doesn’t excuse this hotel’s hygiene problems. Housekeeping didn’t come until our third day, less often than I expected from a hotel calling itself 5-star. When they did come, they didn’t even take out the trash. The price was nearly twice that of other nearby hotels. For what, exactly? It wasn’t the service, cleanliness, or overall experience. The hotel claims 5-star status, but our stay didn’t meet basic standards, let alone luxury ones. Extremely disappointing, and we wouldn’t recommend it if you have another option. Plenty of other hotels offer better value, service, and cleanliness.

The room was excellent, modern, clean, and packed with appliances. We spent two nights in a suite, and the staff were friendly and informative. It’s in a really handy spot, with the main train station nearby, a tram stop right outside, lots of shops and restaurants close by, and a theatre directly across the road.

Everyone at reception was welcoming and in a great mood from the moment we arrived. They were friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist. Our room was spacious, modern, spotless, and had everything we needed. It was very comfortable and thoughtfully laid out. We had a great stay at Meriton Suites and would happily return. Highly recommend!
