The Globe Inn

We really like the building and location, and our overnight stay was pleasant, with a comfortable bed, a nicely appointed room, and a friendly, welcoming owner host. We’d stayed here years ago under different management and would happily return. My 3/5 rating comes from missing amenities I’d expect at this price compared with similar historic lodgings. Wifi is weak through the building and doesn’t reach every room, and the old laptop-sized TV has poor reception and isn’t a Smart television. For one night we can manage without TV or internet and use mobile 4-5G for anything essential. Still, a cottage Airbnb at a similar price has more amenities, as does a much cheaper motel if you only need a night in town.

Charlie pointed us to a wine bar down the road, and we loved it. The junior queen room was just right, with a comfortable bed, the softest sheets, and the best quality pillows I’ve had at a hotel. There was tea, coffee, and cookies ready, which made us feel welcome. Such a charming place, full of character and clearly cared for. The upstairs verandah is absolutely beautiful. Thanks, Charlie and team, we’ll be back!

The location was great, and breakfast was lovely. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the winter sun, and I imagine it’d be even nicer on a summer evening. The room had plenty of character, and we were glad to have the wood fire going all night. Even with it burning, though, the morning was cold. Quirky place, lovely time.

There’s tea, coffee, an electric jug, and a couple of biscuits, but no fridge in the room, only a tiny one in the common room. The TV is laptop-sized, and the old building has squeaky floors and doors. We booked about 3 or 4 weeks ahead and only found out on arrival that breakfast had stopped, which was disappointing after hearing how good it was. I think it would’ve been polite to let us know beforehand. We were told we’d been ‘upgraded’ to a two-bedroom room we neither needed nor used, and the shower was a shower rather than over a bath, which would have been quite fine. The price was $203.40.
