The Merchant Baku

We’ll definitely return. The staff were wonderful, friendly, attentive, and always ready to help, and the hotel was impeccably clean with daily housekeeping. It’s in a historic building, with stylish interiors and spacious rooms equipped with everything we needed. The location is excellent, right by the Old Town and a few minutes from the waterfront, with many attractions within walking distance.

Even with such a central location, it was surprisingly quiet and we rested well. The breakfasts had delicious food and lots of variety, and the staff were very polite and welcoming. The hotel is new, very clean, and well maintained. A small inconvenience is that taxis can’t drive right to the entrance. It’s also better not to book too far ahead, since prices tend to drop significantly closer to the date. People who book early usually don’t get complimentary upgrades either. I really enjoyed the stay and would recommend the hotel.

We’re staying at another hotel and were kindly sent here for breakfast while its restaurant is unavailable. The buffet and service were excellent, and I have no complaints about the food or staff. Still, seeing a bird alone in a small cage inside the hotel was sad and disappointing. Guests can relax over breakfast while the bird is deprived of freedom and kept captive for decoration or entertainment. In the 21st century, we should understand that confining birds like this isn’t ethical or compassionate. Seeing an animal unable to fly or live naturally affected our experience a lot. I hope the hotel reconsiders this practice and treats animals more humanely.

Jafar deserves special thanks for going above and beyond to arrange excursions and make my visit memorable. The staff were incredibly polite and helpful, and service was outstanding throughout my five-day stay. My room was beautiful, spacious, and exceptionally clean. The stylish hotel is perfectly placed for exploring Baku, and breakfast each morning had a wide variety of delicious options. I’d highly recommend it.
