B&B Verdi

We had a brilliant stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting Bruges. The location is hard to beat, and breakfast was generous and delicious. The hotel is charming, full of antiques and quirky touches, while our attic room was modern, spotless, spacious and had a large, very comfortable bed. Everything was clean. You can just about hear the beautiful belfry bells from the square, but they aren't disturbing. The man running the hotel was friendly and helpful.

The location is amazing, with everything a short walk away and even a supermarket across the street. Our requests about luggage were no trouble, and service was fine. The room was much bigger than expected and clean, though it looked old and some of the furniture felt out of place. Breakfast had lots of options and was pretty good, but the quality wasn't always great. The music was a real distraction, and I heard other customers mention it too. Dramatic opera isn't how I like to start the day. If you're playing classical, something calmer would be better. All in all, a completely fine place with nice people. Don't be put off by the overly negative reviews.

I was glad to see the original owners are still running the restaurant, as they have since the early nineties. I'd been many times before, though not for a long while. On this rainy weekday dinner, everything made me happy: the food, service and decor. The shrimp salad was exquisite, unlike any shrimp dish I've found elsewhere. Then I had salmon with cream sauce, leek and some fine parties, also delicious. Service was excellent, personal without being clingy, smooth without being swift. The interior hasn't changed all these years, yet somehow doesn't look tired or worn. Just be aware the background soundtrack is Verdi, duh, so you need to tolerate or enjoy that.

The room was beautiful and spotless, the staff kind and professional, and breakfast was really good. With such a perfect location, it made for a perfect stay. I couldn't recommend the place more.
