Hotel 't Putje

The hygiene was appalling. My room was dirty and nothing like the pictures on Booking.com, and it was infested with ants. If I could, I’d give this hotel zero stars.

After an accident left me with a back injury, my doctor told me not to fly for two weeks, so I had to delay my trip by five days. I’d already paid in full for a non-refundable two-night booking, and at first I only asked to move the dates. The hotel refused, even after several polite requests from me and the booking portal, and after I sent a medical certificate. Their only response was that their policy didn’t allow it. They also told the portal I’d have to pay double the original amount to change dates, which felt exploitative. I’ve lost the money, but I’m writing this so others know what happened. There was no flexibility, compassion or customer service. Don’t book with them, ever.

After lying on the bed in my room, I was bitten several times, and there seems to be a worrying bedbug problem at this hotel. The bites are itchy, and I’m scared the insects could hide in my clothes. The hotel’s indifference made it worse. They said they’d call the cleaning team and might cover a pharmacy bill if I needed medicine for the itching, but offered no help with my safety or wellbeing.

The room had lovely views of both the city and a garden, and the location was handy for nearby places and parking. We booked on Agoda at the last minute, on the same day, for an affordable price. I’d seen good Agoda reviews but only read the mixed Google ones after booking, including some recent negative reviews. Still, our stay turned out decent. The room had basic amenities, including a smart TV, and the bed and pillows were good. The linen and pillowcases looked new. The biggest drawback was the AC, which didn’t work. It was summer, and the room felt warmer than the hallways and outside, though fortunately it wasn’t too hot and they’d provided a fan. There were also signs of wear, like old seats and wall stains. The bathroom light switched off quickly even while showering, so you had to keep moving around to stop it going dark. Charging was awkward too, with two outlets in the main room far from the bed and two in the bathroom. Staff handled coffee charges differently: one let my husband put his coffee on the room bill and pay at checkout, while another insisted he pay right away. Outside noise was manageable, though we could hear trucks before 7:00AM; thankfully, they didn’t stay long.
