The castle is decorated beautifully, and the outdoor square with the Pieten disco was a big hit with the children. Inside, the Pieten lead everyone on an exciting adventure through the castle that ends with a meeting with Sinterklaas. It works well for both young and old. Groups are kept small, so each child gets involved in the story through one of the Pieten. A real spectacle.

The children getting photos with Santa one at a time was a lovely change from our last visit, and they even received a little something afterwards. The whole experience is very child-friendly, with a warm welcome from a Zwarte Piet (Black Pete) in costume and a regular Zwarte Piet (Soot Pete). Staff were incredibly friendly at both the car park and castle entrances. Reception handled unexpected delays kindly and found a solution so people could still enjoy the castle. You can go in a little early, though there’s still a line to wait in before entering. Once the children get started, the story and adventure begin. The parking costs extra and feels a bit expensive, though the area is paved now, which helps in bad weather. This was our second visit, and unfortunately the experience was exactly the same as two years ago. My daughter remembered everything, so it was less fun for her and the novelty had worn off. I don’t know if changes are possible, but some new elements would be great. It’s still a fun outing with children, just less enjoyable when they remember it all so well.

It’s a lovely castle, but it’s privately owned, like so many others, which is a shame. Of course, you can visit during Sinterklaas.
