Hotel Leopold

The location is the only thing this hotel has going for it. The rooms were grubby and disgusting, and far too expensive for what they are. The walls are paper thin, so you hear other guests and residents, including every step people seem to take throughout the hotel. There’s no air conditioning, and even trips to the toilet can be heard in detail. The beds were riddled with bugs, and we left covered in bites. If you value rest, this place is awful. You’ll regret staying here. Save your money and go somewhere else. Honestly, you’d be more comfortable on the cobbles in the square. The worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.

The owner was friendly and helped me with everything. I arrived in Brugge around 3 a.m. after a bad calculation, when all the businesses were closed. Then I noticed the lights on at Leopold’s bar, and finally got two rooms so I could sleep comfortably with my family. The rooms had been recently renovated, the equipment all worked, and the quality was superior. The beds were the best. I recommend hotel/restaurant Leopold for good.

The shared area felt homey, with some kind of kitchen to use and space to relax. For a budget trip, it worked very well: the location is excellent, the price very cheap for the area, and the room was clean with a comfortable bed. The rooms are cramped, though, and service is sparse. In three days I saw the cleaning staff just once. The entrance is through a narrow alley, and it isn’t obvious how to open the door. You just enter the code and push. If you need more than a clean room, I’d look elsewhere.

The rooms were lovely, clean, and beautifully renovated, and the price for the location was fantastic. It was very quiet too. The halls were a bit dingy and the staircase incredibly steep, but the room and location made up for that. We never actually saw any staff on site, though it looked as if they came and went. Checking in over the phone went smoothly. I highly recommend it.
