Hotel Montanus

We ended up leaving early because the room was in poor hygienic condition. There was visible mold, dirt and insects, raising health and safety concerns and seeming unacceptable for a hotel advertised as four stars. We reported it, but no effective solution was offered. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, and they refused our request for a refund for the unused nights. Our stay at Hotel Montanus was very disappointing.

I chose breakfast down the street at Books & Brunch, now permanently closed, though the hotel's breakfast looked good if you want the convenience and don't mind spending a bit more. The coffee in the restaurant lounge is nice. The location is great, with a pleasant garden and a relaxing feel, close enough to the center but away from the hubbub. This was my second visit in the past few years. I stayed in a bottom-level garden view room, which felt a little damp, so I'd suggest going up a level. It was just two nights, so I can't say much about the service.

We enjoyed the friendly staff and refined dishes at the restaurant, which were reasonably priced. The breakfast buffet had some great products: cereal, several breads and spreads, fruit, coffee, plus a station where you could ask for egg dishes or pancakes. Our clean room was in the garden and had a big bathroom with both a bath and shower. There was complimentary water, too. Room no. 20 could use a bit of updating, like fresh paint and a new carpet, but otherwise things were great. The upstairs bathroom sits right under the roof and probably gets very hot in summer. I didn't see any air conditioning, so bear that in mind. It's a lovely hotel in a very central location.

We stayed in the annex, while the main house looked really nice. The linen was nice and the beds very comfortable, but the walls were thin and we could hear our neighbours a lot. On-site parking costs 25€ per night; the public parking a few hundred metres away is almost half the price and is what I'd recommend. The stay was fine overall.
