We were shocked by what happened on the night before we left. Someone got into our apartment and stole money and a credit card, which was then used the next day at two Carrefour shops in Brussels. We are certain the door had been locked. The apartment was on the fifth floor with no elevator, and my friend, who was sleeping in the living room, heard a key turn in the door. Whoever entered seemed to have a key. They took their shoes off, went through our belongings, and went upstairs too, but thankfully didn’t enter the bedrooms. We told the owner, who didn’t seem very surprised and said we were the only ones with keys. We didn’t have time to report it to the police because we were leaving that day. At first, everything had seemed fine: the location was good, and the apartment had a nice kitchen and bathroom. Our experience at Apart Brussels changed completely after the break-in.
