The large terrace is lovely, and I really enjoyed the setting both outside and inside this charming restaurant. It's in a historic building, a former brewery where Stella Artois beer was first made, beside Sluispark and near the lively Vaartkom neighbourhood in central Leuven. I've visited a few times for lunch and once for a drink and dessert. The Dame Blanche was delicious. There's a good choice of starters, mains, and desserts. I especially liked the sweet coffee with chocolates from local chocolatier Bittersweet, along with excellent coffee from Onan.

Most of the food was good. The monkfish and entrecote were both nice, but the hummus, nachos, and fries served with the entrecote or burger disappointed us. The menu says groups of eight or more can choose up to four different main dishes from a list of eight or nine, with burgers counted as one option. Our waiter then said we could only have three. With ten people and just one vegetarian, that leaves the vegetarian almost always having to pick the burger, so they don't really get a choice.

I get to visit lots of interesting venues as a photographer, and De Hoorn is one of my favourite event locations in Belgium. The atmosphere is so unique and the staff are really friendly. There's also a roof terrace where you can take evening photos if you ask nicely 🤗 I love coming back.

I came to see and try Stella Artois fresh from the tank, since this was the original Stella brewery. It looks like they're refurbishing the bar. If brewery history interests you, have a look. The staff are friendly.
