Grotto Bay Beach Resort

The room could use an update, but we spent so little time in it that it was fine. The pool and beach were spotless, and the bar service was quick and friendly. We were on the all-inclusive plan and liked both restaurants. The staff were wonderful, especially Andi, our waiter, who went out of his way to look after us and treated us like family. We were sad to leave and say goodbye to our new friend. Grotto Bay Resort gave us bus and ferry passes, and the bus stop is conveniently at the end of the driveway. We had a wonderful visit and will start planning a return.

The food was a real highlight, a step above other all-inclusive places I’ve tried, and more like fine dining. We also loved the spa inside a cave over the water, and the other cave you can swim in. The location is great, close to the airport with hardly any plane noise, and we walked to some nearby attractions. There’s a bus stop right outside, and the all-inclusive option includes bus and ferry passes. For our honeymoon, we were welcomed with complimentary cheese and crackers and a congrats card. The beds were comfortable, and most rooms have an ocean view. Taxis were always on site, so getting to the airport was easy. Two bartenders were rude, and at times we felt like a bother. My husband even tipped one and got no response. There were no extra blankets, pillows or water bottles in the room; asking for those things also felt like an inconvenience. I’d have liked more evening entertainment, maybe a show. Still, we had a great stay. I’d rate it 4.5 if I could, but rounded up to 5, and would recommend it.

The staff were excellent, and the resort was clean and sanitary apart from the pool. It’s very convenient for the airport, about a five-minute taxi ride for 12USD. The rooms let it down: the beds were very uncomfortable and the AC was loud enough to make sleeping hard. Chickens and roosters also wandered around the resort, crowing through the night and early morning.

We had lots of outdoor activities to choose from, and the caves were really fun to swim in. The massage was amazing too. It’s a great location, a quick ride from the airport, with a bus stop nearby and the Swizzle Inn just a couple of minutes’ walk away. The staff were especially helpful when our flight was cancelled because of the snowpocalypse in the northeastern US.
