Mulia Hotel

We booked a standard twin room in person for day use, which gives you up to 6 hours. We only needed somewhere to rest while getting ready for an event at the hotel, so we didn't stay overnight. The beds were comfortable, and the room and toilet were clean, though dated. The TV was old and had local channels only. Our view wasn't anything special, but views aren't really a feature of this area, and the dated look didn't matter for a daytime stay. Service was good. The staff were friendly and quickly brought the ironing board and iron we requested. On-site facilities include prayer rooms, a swimming pool, and a gym. There are also restaurants: Vanda for Chinese food and Moments for cafe, and I believe breakfast is served at Moments.

The staff were friendly, but that wasn't enough to make up for the stay. I arrived close to 2AM during a Royal Brunei flight layover, when all the shops were shut. I drank the complimentary bottle of water, then found out the hotel charges $4 per bottle. The next day I saw them for 35c at the supermarket. Most hotels provide water for free, so this felt predatory. The rooms are badly worn and felt like a trip back to 1995. The shower wouldn't drain, and we had to call maintenance at 2AM. Breakfast buffet was rubbish. To get decent food, you need to order from the a la carte menu. Standards need to improve if the hotel wants to host guests from overseas.

I enjoyed my stay. It’s a charming, cozy little hotel with nice staff, good room amenities, and a pretty interior. The buffet breakfast was a nice extra, and there’s a basic swimming pool if you want to cool off. The nearest shopping centre is a good 30minute walk, and the city center is about 15min away using the Dart ride app.

Mulia Hotel picked me up from the airport even though my flight was slightly late, and the service was excellent. My room was spacious and nicely decorated, with a very comfortable bed. The buffet breakfast was delicious, though the selection was limited. I had a great experience here.
