Hotel Oro Villa

We spent two days here and found it peaceful, comfortable, and memorable. The hospitality felt warm and genuine, and the buffet breakfast and dinner were good quality with a decent range of familiar choices. From the hillside, there’s a striking view over the valley, with snow-capped mountains visible in the distance on clear mornings. It’s a lovely family-friendly place to enjoy Thimphu from above.

The food selection is limited but decent, so ask to see the menu beforehand or consider eating in the city if the options don’t appeal. Since the hotel is on top of a hill, you’ll need a taxi to get downtown. The room view is incredible, so request a town view well in advance. In winter the geyser heats very slowly, and the heater may need adjusting to your preferred temperature. Ask the Hotel staff what setting they suggest.

Though it’s not right in the centre of Thimphu, the hotel has one of the best views from up high. The rooms are neat, clean, and spacious, and both the breakfast and dinner buffets have a great spread. Staff are kind and helpful, and they take personal care to make large groups comfortable. When my mom was unwell and couldn’t go sightseeing with us, they made sure she was comfortable and looked after her.

Everything was good, but this time the manager was so rude. She didn’t show respect to Bhutanese customers, and the service was worse than I expected. We always love hanging out there, so I’m sorry to leave an honest review. Happy new year.
