The mornings were quiet except for the parrots, and Monika was generous with her help throughout my stay. I spent a few weeks here exploring Western Belize. The new house was lovely and had more room than I expected from the photos. I never heard the highway or neighbours. I’ll be back soon.

The location worked well for getting around: it’s between Belmopan and San Ignacio, with a 25-minute drive by rental car or a 40-minute public bus ride. The bus stops at the Maya-Hill-Road driveway. Nearby restaurants serve Belizian and Mexican food with fresh, fragrant ingredients, and there are lots of attractions close by. I also loved the grounds, with fruit trees, flowers, a picnic spot, barbecue and hammocks. The guesthouses felt elegant and well equipped, and the kitchens had what we needed. Each room has a ceiling fan, and Villa Tucan also has three extra air-conditioning units. Taking an open-air shower in the morning with parrots nearby was a fun experience. Even though it’s centrally located, the property stays quiet. The staff were friendly, warm and helpful, and I’d recommend staying here for a distinctive Belize vacation.

The pool and all the fruit trees around the property were a real highlight for me. It’s an awesome place in the Cayo, clean and tastefully done, and Monika was a great host.
