The listing showed a two-bedroom unit with an ocean view, balcony, and kitchen, but we got a single room facing an alley with clothes hanging, with no balcony or kitchen. The towels and sheets were stained or dirty, the pillows smelled strongly of body odor, and the toilet still had visible fecal marks. There were dirty handprints on the walls, cracked floor tiles, mold on the ceiling, and the WiFi didn’t work at all. We raised this immediately with the hotel manager, who just nodded and offered no solution, so we had to check out. We lost $800 through Airbnb. When I tried to dispute the charge, Airbnb asked for written communication with the host. I sent photos and a detailed explanation, but the host accused me of lying and said the photos were “fake/spam.” The room was immediately rented again, so the host was paid twice while we were left paying $800 for this room and another $800 for other accommodation. Locals also told us the hotel has a poor reputation and that local guests pay around $70 a night, while we were charged over $200. It feels like a scam targeting tourists: a misleading listing, unacceptable cleanliness, and a host who was dishonest and dismissive. Do not stay here. The photos I attached show what we thought we were booking and what we actually got.

They cancelled my booking while we were already on the way, even though I’d clearly confirmed we’d arrive within an hour. They acknowledged that and still cancelled the room. Their excuse was that my credit card didn’t work, which is false. It was valid, had enough funds, and there was no problem on my end. I even offered to pay cash when we arrived, but they ignored me. That’s dishonest, highly unprofessional, and unacceptable. Cancelling a confirmed booking at the last minute while a guest is already travelling shows no respect or reliability. You can’t trust this hotel to honor a reservation. If you value your time, peace of mind, and basic professionalism, stay somewhere else.

The room was spacious and the bed comfortable, and the location worked well for catching the ferry to Chetumal. But traffic noise was bad, the water was barely hot, and the staff weren’t especially friendly. We also struggled to lock and unlock the door.

We booked through Airbnb expecting the advertised two-bedroom suite with a beach view, but the room we got had neither two separate bedrooms nor a view or kitchenette as described. The host wasn’t understanding, and later told us he’d rebooked the room. We’re out our money.

The hosts’ little boy greeted us with a huge smile every day, and my boys, who are 9 and 11, absolutely loved the hotel. It really felt like staying with family. During our visit, which fell over Eid, the family invited us to their celebration. We missed the celebration because the moon appeared earlier than expected, but when we returned they’d made us an incredible home-cooked dinner. One of the most thoughtful and delicious meals I’ve had. This warm, generous family made our trip unforgettable, and I’d return to Belize just to see them again. Thanks for all the memories. We’d come for my 40th birthday and my boys’ spring break, and picked Hotel Coastal Bay 2 for its central location. It turned out to be the best decision. At check-in, our host offered to upgrade us to a spacious little apartment on the third floor, then carried all our luggage up three flights, on top of his head! He made us feel cared for right away. They also helped us rent a golf cart, which made getting around easy.
