HI Banff Alpine Centre - Hostel

I stayed for about two months. The staff were amazing, events were great, and the kitchens and bathrooms were good. I had no theft issues, and the other guests were good too. Staff were responsive and accommodating, which was nice. For the price, though, come on, it’s 2026 and we should have bunk beds with privacy curtains.

Best hostel I’ve stayed at. Staff are friendly and helpful, and it’s clean and accommodating. They offer activities practically every day, with a casual restaurant, a bar, kitchen amenities, communal fridges and a pantry. A free bus pass is included to get to downtown Banff if you don’t have a car. The parking lot is a bit small and gets really icy in winter. You only get a towel and bedsheets, though body soap is provided in the shower. Bring conditioner and shower shoes or flip flops, since the showers are down the hall.

The shared kitchen was spotless, huge and had pretty much everything I could need. There’s also free breakfast, and the common area is a great place to hang out, chat with other travelers or relax. This is an amazing spot if you’re okay with a dorm, a real backpacker headquarters. A free local bus pass makes getting around easy. If you’re planning a mountain adventure, ask the front desk to borrow bear spray. The place feels safe and comfortable, and ready for whatever comes next.

Such a good value and location! The shuttle stop is about 100 yards away, and the included pass takes you right into town. The HI Banff staff were friendly, and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. You can borrow bear spray at the front office. If you need to leave luggage after checkout, there are lockers. Bring your own lock or buy one at the front desk for a few bucks, around $3. We didn’t try the hostel food, but heard good things. My friends and I loved our stay.
