Auberge Old Chelsea

The house was clean and really nice, with cooking and dining facilities available too. It’s in a great spot, close to the Nordik spa and lots of good hiking.

I still think about going back every year. My husband booked the garden room for our anniversary about six years ago, so I can’t say what it’s like now. It was just right for us then, with a balcony overlooking the garden and fire pit. We didn’t use the fire pit since we spent the day at Nordik Spa, then went to pub Chelsea down the road, which I think is the best around. The screened porch at the back, with its tin roof, was a highlight for me. A huge thunderstorm hit the night we checked in, and sitting there was perfect. Breakfast was the part I’d change. There’s no choice or cooking on site, just a cold plate in the fridge. Ours had a scone and yogurt, which isn’t really my kind of breakfast. We were told we could help ourselves to the fridge, so my husband and I put together a delicious breakfast at the island instead. We washed, dried, and put all the dishes and cutlery back, but later an older woman from housekeeping scolded us for not eating what had been left for us. I didn’t regret making a fresh breakfast we enjoyed.

Our extended family was thrilled with this house, and we’re still talking about our little holiday there. It felt like a special place to spend time together, with a warm, home-like atmosphere and cute decor. It was very clean, even beneath the sofas and beds. I dropped something and had to look under there, so I noticed there wasn’t any dust. The bedding and towels were lovely quality, too. The home looked good in the photos, but it was even better in person. The owner was friendly and accommodating, and we’d highly recommend staying here.

Charming little place in Old Chelsea, near Nordik Spa and Gatineau Park. Booking and check-in were easy, and the owner was friendly. The rooms were clean, and the large windows let in a lovely breeze. For a quiet night, ask for a room facing the backyard. The street-facing room was noisy, and the sewer grate everyone drove over made quite a racket. It woke me a few times, though the place was still worth the stay.
