There was a working fireplace, the heat worked, and both TVs worked, though one had a speaker issue. The internet was fine too. The room was dated, but clean and functional. Some trim and baseboards were dusty, though it didn’t really bother us. The couch stitching was coming apart, but it was comfortable. Curtains barely covered the whole window, so privacy was limited. The toilet and toilet paper holder were also extremely low, almost child height. We were in unit 374, which wasn’t with the 37X units but with another group, and it was really confusing to find in a snowstorm at midnight. Each unit gets one parking spot, but not all spots are by the unit. The reviews on this place and booking.com conflict about a lot, though everyone seems to agree the furniture is old. There was bar soap and nothing else, but we’d read that on booking.com and brought shampoo and conditioner. There was no coffee, salt, or sugar, though there was a coffee machine and filters. The kitchen had dull knives, lots of cutlery and plates, plus an unlisted toaster. The microwave was clean, the fridge was big, and there was also a blender and cheese grater.

The place was shabby and really run down. For $200 a night, I expected a lot better. It felt like a motel from the 1990s, and I’m glad to be leaving tomorrow. The bed was awful and lumpy, and the pillows were disgusting. There were cobwebs all over the phone. The bedroom light pull cord was broken, so I didn’t even realize there was a light there until I noticed the fluorescent bulbs this morning. The kitchen light doesn’t work either. The curtains are too narrow for the windows and don’t close fully, so anyone can see in and the light comes through. The smoke alarm battery was sticking out. Aren’t working smoke alarms required by law? I emailed them about it but got no response.

We had a really good stay, and I’d give the place five stars. It’s older, but clean, and the TV is modernized. Wi-Fi is available. They explained upfront where the pool and amenities are and how they work. A few things I noticed were about other guests, not the property or the Mountain View Villas management team. Across the way, people were treating the outdoors like their own backyard, wandering around in underwear and doing the nasty in the front yard. If they need to do that, they should go to the back. They also brought in large trailers and put them on other people’s lawns. None of that happened at my villa, but we could see it. I’d recommend staying there. Just bring your own tin foil, baggies, plastic wrap, and extra garbage bags. Also, if you leave something behind and try to contact them to arrange picking it up, nobody gets back to you. I tried multiple ways, calling the site, leaving a message with Slope to Shore, and contacting them through booking.com.

The parking and location were good, and having a full kitchen and two bathrooms was nice. It felt like a small cabin, and we booked last minute with a voucher. We went with our one-year-old, but there wasn’t much space to manage with a baby. There’s no pool or park on site. We had no hot water for five of our seven days, and it never got fixed. On the hottest day, the AC went out and maintenance didn’t come until 24 hours after I called, so I had to fix it myself. The previous guests had left the fireplace on, and both maintenance and housekeeping missed it. When the AC failed, the fireplace was still running low and heating the place. I had to deal with it without knowing what I was getting into. That night, we slept at 30 degrees with a baby. Not good, and there was no response. Whenever we called, we heard nothing until a day or longer later. It was all just okay at best.

The villa was spacious, spotless, and nicely designed, with all we needed to be comfortable. The big glass windows let us enjoy the beautiful views over morning coffee, and the cozy furnishings and equipped kitchen made it feel like home. We were impressed as soon as we arrived. The hosts were so helpful and made the stay easy. It’s also convenient for restaurants, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Dollarama, Tim Hortons, and other shops. Blue Mountain Villa exceeded what we expected. I can’t wait to come back, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
