The rooms were decent and the staff friendly, but the charges and noise have put me off recommending this place. We’ve stayed at the Devonian for the hockey tournament for three years running, and the first two visits were positive. This time I urged our team manager to book again, and I regret it. I won’t recommend it anymore, and I’ll make sure my company books elsewhere. I’d first reserved a double Queen at a group rate for two nights, then chose to upgrade to a suite. They quoted $179 a night plus a pet fee for our dog, which was fine. They pre-authorized $477 on my card. I questioned it briefly, but we were rushing to the rink after check-in. At checkout, they added the pet fee. When I asked why the total was so much higher than quoted, I was told I had a special room and they should charge more than the $10-per-night pet fee. Room 121 is right beside the laundry, so there was noise all night, and housekeeping banged on the door at 7:30. If you like surprise charges, maybe this is the place for you.

At least the TV worked this time. The toilet wouldn’t stop running after we first used it, and housekeeping knocked at 7:30 on a Saturday morning to clean the room.

I’ve stayed here many times over the past 15 years. It’s a comfortable, pleasant place to stay while working in Fox Creek, with clean rooms and very friendly, helpful staff. The gym is decent for a hotel gym. Dinner is a nice bonus, though the meals get repetitive after a week, and their quality has slipped over the past year or so.

The room was clean and the staff were friendly. It could use some maintenance, though, since my door scraped along the floor when I went in.

The location is decent, with a bank, grocery store, and gas station all within a five-minute walk. The rooms look nice in pictures, and they’re cleaned well. The beds are comfortable too. But the overall stay wasn’t worth the price. The hotel advertises free breakfast from 5 to 10 AM and dinner from 5 to 8 PM. Dinner was very poor, worse than soup-kitchen food. The fridge, stove, and sink are combined in one of those metal setups from the 70s. The elevators badly need service. I only used them to bring my bags in and out, then took the stairs. On my first ride, I pressed for floor 1 while going down from floor 3. It stopped at 1 and the door began to open, but after two inches it closed again. Then it went up to 2, where someone got in and pressed 3. The elevator went up to 4 without stopping at 3. The other passenger got out on 4 and said he’d take the stairs. Eventually it went down to 1, while I kept pressing the floor 1 button.
