After a five-hour drive from Vancouver, we stopped at Imperial Motel before continuing to Trail BC, and were very disappointed. I wasn’t expecting a four- or five-star stay for $169.00 a night, but I did expect to feel safe and find a clean room. One of the two queen beds had dirty, stained sheets. The employee was friendly and tried to help as much as he could, but when we asked for part of the room charge back because we weren’t comfortable staying overnight, they wouldn’t refund even 10%. We took the loss and left. I have no words. Don’t stay at Imperial Motel until its cleaning and hygiene standards improve.

It was quiet and clean, with no noise issues, and convenient for a short visit. The room itself was very basic and smelled of smoke, and the beds were somewhat hard. There was no hair dryer in the bathroom. The shower swung from scalding hot to freezing cold once.

The owners were genuinely helpful, offering advice about town and getting us what we needed for the room. They’re a real asset, and the location is handy on the highway, close to places for dinner or shopping. It’s a family-run motel and very affordable if you’re on a budget, with the basics covered. The room and furniture look old, and the comforter had a hole that was probably from an old cigarette. Still, the place was clean, and for the price I can’t complain, so five stars.

The staff were very friendly and upgraded my room at no charge. The room was clean, and the king bed felt new and was very comfortable. They also let me bring my two well-behaved German Shepherds, even though the sign says small dogs only. I’d recommend it and stay again when passing through.

The previous owners cared about the hotel and kept it up, but the new owner who took over in 2016 doesn’t seem to. I’d only read reviews from fall 2016 onward. He seems more focused on security and bright outdoor lights than maintaining rooms, and I question the need for his security setup. He’s a different sort of guy. When I stayed, the internet kept cutting out. Rates seem to vary between guests, as do pet fees and monthly rates. I’ve stayed here and have friends in the area, but complaints don’t get accommodated. He’s very “cheap” and has a temper if you ask for anything or complain. The time I was there, he wouldn’t allow even an hour of late checkout and came to the door if you weren’t out right on time. The sewer seems to have pending problems, and other reviews make me think I’m not the only one concerned. It’s close to downtown, but most places in town are a short walk away anyway. You may not even have to pay more to stay at another mom and pop or B&B that wants you to enjoy your visit and cares about the community. There’s a Ramada in town if you want a chain hotel. Consider the other little places instead. Keep driving.
