All the staff we dealt with were friendly, and we never felt unwelcome. Still, at $229 a night, the stay felt like a rip-off. At $120-140 it might have been decent value, but the price was nowhere near the experience. The elevator had a photo of all the properties they own, which left me feeling management cared more about expanding than making a good product or supporting the staff they have. Our newly renovated room was clean and nice, but quite small, with ripped bathroom wallpaper and rushed, poor quality work. We were traveling with kids as part of a team booking, and there was no Wi-Fi. The TV wasn’t set up or able to connect to the internet. The tiny pool had no towels, so we had to ask for some. Breakfast was fine in parts, with toast and cereal okay, but the beans were lukewarm and the boiled eggs were wrapped in plastic and closed with Scotch tape. They seem to be working on improvements, but the price sets you up for disappointment. When I mentioned the Wi-Fi and TV at checkout, the desk staff member said, “that just happens sometimes,” with no apology or effort to fix it.

The pool was suddenly closed, and my kids were really upset. We paid $614 for two rooms for one night, and when I raised the issue with the manager, I felt talked at. There was no interest in compensation when I explained that positive pool reviews were why we chose the place. The response was just “it is what it is.” The manager was dismissive, rude, and uncaring, and I found the customer service unethical. I understand safety issues had to come first and that these things happen. My complaint isn’t that anyone dismissed guest safety, it’s about the attitude in the conversation. The manager said, “Finally I can go home and stop thinking about the damn pool!” before realizing I was coming around the corner, and only then caught themself after blaming children as the issue. Nothing in my original concern suggested anyone was dismissive of safety. I’m disgusted with how this was handled.

The location worked well for us, close to everything, and our two-night stay in January 2026 was nice overall. It cost around $250. Staff were very friendly, and the lobby is being renovated, though it has the potential to look really nice once that’s done. The room’s mattress was comfortable, but the carpet and wallpaper were dated, and I didn’t like the cleaner’s smell, so I bought an air freshener. We also didn’t have a nice view from the window. The pool was very small, and my kids were bored after about 30 minutes, so we found a rec center to swim instead. On Saturday we were out from 10:30-5pm, but the maid knocked at 5:10 to clean. She only changed the towels and made the beds, so it was quick, but still inconvenient. I would have liked a quick vacuum since the kids had made a bit of a mess. Breakfast included yogurt, cereal, toast, English muffins, bagels, beans, hard boiled eggs, Eggos, toaster pancakes, coffee, and juice. I’m not trying to be rude, just sharing how it felt.

Aimee/Amee made such a difference to our stay at Coastal Inn. She was there whenever we needed something, and somehow turned the day around and left us grinning from ear to ear. I’m struggling to find words for how fantastic she was. Please pass this along to her boss. You don’t meet employees like her often.

We’re already booking another stay at Coastal Inn while we help get our daughter’s apartment set up. She found a place sooner than expected, so Amy even offered a refund for our last night, which we didn’t need. It’s about a 7.4 km drive to downtown Hailfax and the Martime bus terminal. See you soon! We first came for a coastal weekend, which turned into a housing search near our daughter’s college. The front desk team made the trip feel easy despite the apartment hunting, and Angela kept the hotel clean and welcoming while we were out, always checking if we needed anything. Amy was especially helpful throughout. Our room was comfortable and clean, with good beds, a decent sized fridge, microwave, coffee setup, and AC that kept things cool after busy days. Breakfast had lots to choose from, including eggs, toast, pancakes, French toast, cereal, and plenty more. The price was great, and we felt safe in this quiet area, especially coming from Fredericton N.B. It was also easy to drive around without the city traffic. We’d happily return, 110%.
