The location makes daily life easy: downtown spots are about a five-minute walk away, including the boardwalk and good restaurants. Atlantic Supermarket and Seaport Farmers’ Market are close by too. We’ve been here for over a month and love the building. Our large one-bedroom looks onto the landscaped courtyard garden, so we wake up to all that greenery. There’s no direct sun into the unit, which keeps it cool and airy, but soft natural light still comes in throughout the day. The building is well maintained and quiet. From the Lower Water St. side, I hardly hear traffic, apart from the occasional cruise ship horn. The staff have been incredibly helpful as well.

It’s only my second day in Halifax, and I love the fresh air. I could just sit and feel the water breeze on my face. Dinner gets really crowded, with people and vendors packed in. I like the mornings best, right through to close to dawn.

We sold the place and moved on. I felt the association treated me unfairly after I tried to defend my elderly mother. The super they had hired was, in my view, preying on elderly residents and trying to get them to buy him a car. He was fired but refused to leave, and became a squatter. When I came home for Christmas, I spoke with these people about what was happening to my mom. They called the police with a false report, as I saw it, and the association demonized me for standing up for her against people I considered illegal squatters preying on elderly residents. I should have sued them for slander.

For a few years I lived on the main level facing Lower Water Street, and the trucks never bothered me since they tend to pass slowly. The units have no a/c, so it can get hot in summer; you can put an a/c in the window, though, or a fan works well. The building is quiet and well kept, and the neighborhood is quiet and posh, with great restaurants nearby. Grocery stores, hospitals, and universities are conveniently close too.

You can’t beat the location, but living here in summer could be unbearable since most units have no a/c. If your windows face Lower Water Street, you also get fumes from the thousands of semi trucks roaring loudly past on their way from the nearby port.
