The Canterbury Inn of Downtown Invermere

We were passing through from Alberta for a little getaway and got a last-minute stay. They were so kind and hospitable, and we really appreciate them accommodating us. The rooms are affordable, simple, and clean, and we could walk to plenty of shops and my favourite restaurant in town. We travel everywhere with our awesome dog, so having pet-friendly rooms was such a nice touch.

We waited too long to book while traveling and ended up here. The room layout worked, and it was somewhere to lie our heads, at our own risk. Parking was limited, and we worried every time we went out that there wouldn’t be a spot when we got back. The issue was how construction worker trucks seemed to take up two spaces, and trailers loaded with construction items used up more spots. When we entered the room, we took off our shoes. Big mistake: our feet and socks were black within seconds, and you could feel the dirt everywhere. I asked for a broom and mop. The gentleman apologized and said he’d apply a discount, but a few weeks later I still hadn’t received it. He gave me a dirty broom and an even dirtier, barely wet mop. I did my best to sweep and mop, and at least we could walk in socks again, though they turned grey instead of black. The beds looked clean, but the mattresses were clearly worn unevenly. One had a firmness difference of about two inches, and you could see and feel which side had been used most. Some outlets looked sketchy enough that we worried plugging anything in could cause a fire. The place kind of felt like the set of breaking bad. I wouldn’t recommend it. I’ll book ahead next time. Fool me once!

We found a room at the last minute in March 2025, and getting checked in was easy. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the price and location were both great for a cheap motel. There’s a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker too. The bathroom windows only had privacy covering on the lower half. I think it was enough to keep people from seeing in, but it still felt odd being able to see out. I’d stay here again.

The office was open and staffed, booking was easy, and they were fine with cash. It’s in a nice spot off the main road, so there was no traffic or truck noise. The place was clean and quiet, the beds were nice, and the fridge kept drinks cold. I’ll come back.
