Alta Vista Motel

A clove of garlic was just lying on the floor, which pretty much sums up the room. It was tiny, filthy, and smelled so bad my nose got stuffed up within minutes. The blankets had what looked like pee stains and, even worse, poo stains. Everything felt grimy enough that I didn’t want to touch the furniture. I wouldn’t let my dog stay here. It’s the most disgusting place I’ve ever walked into.

We didn’t stay. Once we saw the room, we found a blanket underneath the bedspread that had turned yellow from dirt and stains. The sheets weren’t even white, and their patterns made it hard to tell how dirty they were. We’d already read complaints about cleanliness and nearly skipped this motel, but after hours of searching late at night because we were stranded and everywhere else was booked, we decided to check it out. The management had denied those cleanliness concerns in replies to reviews. At the desk, the woman was incredibly rude and unprofessional, and she answered unpleasantly when we asked to see a room before booking. Honestly, I’d sleep in the car instead.

The couple who run this motel were warm and welcoming, and the room was spotless, comfortable, and well maintained. I felt their care and pride in the place during my stay. Some of the negative reviews don’t seem fair to the effort they put in, so I wanted to share my positive experience.

The rooms are nice and the service for drinks is pretty low. The walls are way too thin, though. Otherwise, it’s a decent place. I’d have rated it higher if it weren’t for the noise through the walls.
