Baldachin Inn

We had the pickerel dinner, and the servers were friendly and very efficient. The outdoor courtyard garden is lovely, with pretty patio sets and umbrellas, and there’s a wide-ranging menu. A really nice spot for lunch or dinner outside.

I tried the potato and bacon soup, which tasted good, but the portion was tiny, more like something for a child. It came in a small heart-shaped bowl, barely an inch and a half high. The waiter had described it as hearty when I was choosing between it and the fish and chips. After that disappointing serving I tried to order the key lime cheesecake, but they were out. I left hungry and angry about paying $13.00 for so little. My husband and I visit Merrickville often, but we won’t eat here again.

On a packed Mother's Day Sunday, we were told to sit down, then waited 20 minutes while other tables were seated. I finally got a server's attention and we were seated. An hour after ordering, our fish and chips and eggs Benedict arrived. The fish coating was tough as shoe leather and tasted oily afterward. The eggs Benedict were cold and had no flavor. The food and service were horrendous.

We had a pleasant dinner at the Baldachin Inn for a special occasion. It was a quiet Sunday and we were the first guests in the large, bright dining room, with a nice view of the heritage Merrickville shops through the windows. The room is well appointed and charming. Our server was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The food was quite good, and my seafood platter was a very generous portion. We also enjoyed a delicious Oyster Bay red wine. A good choice for a quiet, relaxed dinner.
