The room was clean and the bed comfortable, so I slept well. The shower got nice and hot, and the front desk service was attentive. The sinks, shower, and toilet were all rectangular, ha! A mat by the entrance would have helped catch the sand and salt from winter shoes. We stayed for a weekend exploring old montreal. The location was convenient, and the front desk gave us a great map and tips when we asked. We walked most places and used Uber when needed. A car was always nearby, with a wait of no more than five minutes. The Keg restaurant is very close, and I’d consider staying here again.

The staff made things easy from check-in through checkout. They were welcoming, attentive, and ready to help. Getting around was convenient, too, with shops, restaurants, and key attractions all within walking distance downtown. AC Hotel by Marriott Montreal Downtown has spacious rooms, more room than I usually expect in a city hotel. The modern, clean design and thoughtful layout made it comfortable, whether travelling with family or just wanting space to unwind. It’s a good combination of comfort, convenience, and service for a Montreal visit.

Maintenance staff Juan and Yacin were exceptionally helpful, efficient, and apologetic. Their help was a bright spot in a stay that left my family with no peace of mind. The manager offered a breakfast voucher, which I refused and suggested saving for someone who might return. I believe I should have received a refund after our only full day was ruined during a short trip. We booked a family weekend from Friday night to Sunday noon with Bonnvoy points, travelling with little kids and an infant. Trouble started at the desk during our late check-in around 8:00 pm. As Bonnvoy Elite, I asked for a floor above the second and a room not at the end of the corridor. The young woman said it was fully booked, though I was the only person in the lobby for the next 15 minutes. Her answers were very short and unfriendly. Our room was at the far end, with a side building wall blocking the view. The long layout put the bathroom facing the two queen beds in the middle, while the TV was by the door at the far end, impossible to watch from bed. The air conditioner sounded like a truck engine, the wall thermostat didn’t respond, and the warm airflow couldn’t be turned down. We were told to unplug it. The kids got grumpy from the heat, then cold when we shut it off. We called again and someone sent maintenance, who reset it and slowed the airflow, but the engine noise stayed. The Wi-Fi was unstable and hard to connect to, then kept dropping, perhaps because of the room location. The old TV’s HDMI and USB ports didn’t work; after two calls, maintenance replaced the Bell TV box. Saturday was a day to remember for all the wrong reasons. We went for brunch and came back around 4:00 pm to freshen up before heading out again. I used the toilet and flushed, then the water level rose and overflowed across the bathroom and into the room in under five minutes. We’d used only the hotel’s toilet paper. We rushed out, taking our phones, baby stroller, and car key. Only then did a room in a normal condition suddenly become available. The man at reception said they’d found a room in the same category we booked, plus one breakfast voucher. I was still shocked. Where I come from, after an experience like this and losing the only full day of a short stay, it would mean at least an upgrade and full refund. Think carefully before booking.

The rooms are practical and well cared for, though the views aren’t much to look at, as is common in big city hotels. The neighborhood feels safe by big city standards, and there are places to eat open very late. The location is the real draw, on the northern edge of Old Montreal. It’s a five-minute walk to the metro and one minute to the route 55 bus. Business travelers can reach the CBD in one to four stops on the orange line, depending on where they’re headed, while the hotel is away from the crowded, noisy Saint-Catherine / Rene Levesque corridors, so it’s easier to rest. For leisure, Old Montreal and the old port are walkable. The #55 Saint-Laurent bus also connects to places along Saint-Laurent, Saint-Denis, the Plateau, the Saint-Viateur bagel shop at Mile End, and Schwartz for viande fumée. The hotel is well maintained and hard to beat for location.

I liked the clean, comfortable room and the service was good. Being right in Old Montreal, with everything within walking distance, was a big plus. The one awkward part was the bathroom in our twin room. Its sliding door had gaps, so there was almost no privacy when sharing. Still, it was a solid stay, and I’d give it four stars for the location and overall experience.
