Best Western Plus Ottawa Downtown Suites

The room had nice decor, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff were kind, knowledgeable, efficient, and helpful. The breakfast was the one thing that kept the hotel from getting five stars. I missed having a proper plate, although I did appreciate the composting and recycling. When I asked whether the egg omelet was gluten free, I had to check the ingredients myself. I also miss a simple cheese omelet made with just cheese, eggs, and a little milk.

The hotel itself was nice, the room was clean, and the beds were good, but nothing really stood out. The breakfast was the usual hotel kind. We had suite 215, which looks out onto a wall. I did have to take a cold shower one night, probably because of a boiler issue, but the hot water was back after dinner. Our Friday arrival from Toronto at about 10:30 p.m. didn't start well: we were told to park across the street. The front desk staff seemed to enjoy watching us unload everything at the entrance and carry it up to the room.

The familiar staff always go out of their way to make my stay pleasant, and seeing the lobby decorated for Christmas, with a real tree and beautiful flowers, was lovely. It smelled wonderful too. I just got home from another December 10-13, 2019 business trip downtown, and once again Best Western Downtown Suites delivered. The clean, modern room was well decorated, with a comfortable bed and a fully equipped kitchenette. The coffee machine was great, with plenty of K-cups and teas. The inviting breakfast room was clean and had lots of hot and cold choices. It's a nice spot to have coffee and chat, watch the news on the big screens, or eat breakfast. The spotless underground parking was well lit. The hotel's management seems committed to looking after its employees. I'd recommend it to anyone staying downtown. Plenty of restaurants are within walking distance, including the Whalebone at Bank and Gladstone, a fun evening and a unique dining experience. I'd suggest reserving a table. I've stayed here several times for work, and the rooms and common areas are always very clean. Breakfast is a nice extra, though it would be helpful if it started earlier on weekdays since I'm up very early. On my last two stays, getting a morning taxi took a VERY long time, even when I requested one ahead of time. Keep that in mind if you have an early departure. Great hotel overall 😉
