We stayed April 25-28, 2025, for our 15th anniversary on the 26th, so the trip mattered a lot. I have a provincially certified service dog trained with a school for well over a year. There was some initial confusion about whether she was a pet, but I'm grateful the hotel eventually recognized my service dog and our rights. She has the same rights as a guide dog. I wouldn't threaten a business with reports under the BC Guide and Service Dog act, but I do try to help people understand the rules. People who pretend to have service dogs make things harder for everyone. I came downstairs Saturday to show how she behaves, and staff and customers were impressed. Room 302 on the ocean side was wickedly nice, hence the four star room rating. The service was a different story. The comfort controls had a prominent sign warning not to change the mode, but the room was freezing, so I pressed stop. It went off completely. When we returned later, start did nothing, and the bathroom heated floor wouldn't turn on either. We were told the room attendant could fix it, but the attendant was just as confused and didn't know what we meant. We gave up. The room later got sweltering. We're in our 50s. Someone called to say a brother would come fix the controls, but nobody showed up. The sign about the controls was confusing about what could mess up the system, apparently because of wiring issues with the next room. If it needs that kind of warning, maybe put a cage over the unit like offices do. We were told to open the windows, then asked why we had, then told we couldn't. The whole resort experience had been something since booking. The manager, Lisanne, was SUPER condescending and rude, and talked down to me several times where others could hear. A couple of times she acted fake kind, and I played along so we wouldn't lose the room. Service gets a bad score. There are lots of stairs, the comfort controls are weird as hell, and the manager was rude. We probably won't return to Powell River, so maybe none of this matters for us.

The sunset from the deck was fantastic, with a view that's hard to beat unless maybe you're on the top floor. The deck is partly shared and sits above the parking lot. We'd been a little wary after reading some reviews, but our stay was great: friendly staff, a nice room, and carpets that seemed totally fine, maybe they'd been replaced.

My usual pedicure place felt rushed today. The spa pedicure took just 27 minutes from start to finish, which isn't normal for $70. Not sure I'll come back.

The room itself had several problems: filthy carpets, a bathroom sink that was sullied, and an air conditioner that leaked all over the door frame, leaving rust stains. At check-in we were treated poorly. I asked about an upgrade and the manager was rude and condescending. I sent pictures and told the manager how disappointed I was, but the person in charge never replied. I've worked in hospitality for 30 years and have never been treated this badly. I'll never darken the doors of this place again, and I'll discourage anyone from staying.

We spent most days hiking or kayaking, so this was fine as a place to crash at night, but it's very average and feels more like a motel. It's probably the best choice if you want to stay in central Powell River. Our room was an ocean view king, though a true ocean view is apparently limited to the top floor suites. We could see the water, but also garbage dumpsters behind the parking lot, and a loud vent came on every morning. The carpet looked worn and stained, the pillows were very flat, and the firmer ones I asked the front desk for never appeared. There was no front desk service outside 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and apart from the spa there weren't amenities.
