The bathrooms are tiny, and you can hear loud guests because the hotel is old. Still, I really enjoyed staying here and loved Quebec. Le Chateau de Pierre is in Old Quebec, within walking distance of the Christmas market and Frontenac, and the room felt cozy and old-fashioned without seeming dirty or in need of renovation. We had a blast visiting Quebec City and the Christmas market. A lot of reviews mention old rooms and no staff on site. People could have avoided those surprises by doing their research before booking.

The room was simple but had what we needed, and the interior had a charming, grandma’s-flat feel, in the best way. There’s no elevator, so you’ll have to carry your bags upstairs. Check-in is handled through a phone in the front vestibule, then they give you codes for the hotel and room. It’s right in the heart of old Quebec, but a little off the beaten path and quieter. Lovely place for a one-night stay.

A cute little hotel right in the city center, with a great view of the famous Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. There’s no front desk or elevator, so be ready to take your luggage upstairs. We had a nice stay.

The location was great, and the price was good for the area, but I wouldn’t stay here again. Our modern, clean, comfortable room had two problems. We were in the basement directly below the main entrance. When it snowed, people stomped snow off their boots at the door all night, and our room shook every time. There may not be much the hotel can do about that, but it didn’t feel like a five-star stay. We were there for three nights and got no housekeeping. We’d been told it came every two days, so on day two we left our wet towels in the shower. That night the beds were still unmade, the bins were full, and the towels were still on the floor. Customer service apologized and said they were short staffed. Why tell us housekeeping would come if it wasn’t going to? They directed us to a housekeeping closet on the second floor for fresh towels. That fixed the immediate problem, but it wasn’t a five-star experience. The stained carpets in the main lobby were hard to miss. The lack of a front desk wasn’t a big issue for us, since I’ve stayed in plenty of Airbnbs without one. Our main door code worked, but the room code didn’t. Customer service responded quickly and reset it, which was helpful, though after a long travel day we should have been able to get into the room without troubleshooting by phone or text. I’d come back to QC, but not this hotel.

The rooms have been modernized and have air conditioning, but our shower was awkward to get in and out of because of how close its door was to the toilet. There’s no elevator, and hallway noise came easily through our room door. The hotel uses a virtual reception, so we mostly communicated by text and phone. We were able to leave our bags in a lobby corner monitored by camera, and the coded entrance made it feel secure. It’s in a great spot for touring old Québec.
