The old building felt cozy, and it's right in beautiful Old Quebec City, beside the famous frontanac. Staff were very friendly, the toilets and sink were clean, the room was quiet, and you could adjust the heat or cooling. Free coffee and tea were available. They suggested a cheaper parking lot, though it's a steep climb, and parking isn't validated by the hotel. The room smelled dusty and old. The walls and heater looked unclean, the floor needed mopping, and the bathroom curtain had orange stains. One pillow was dirty, and the bed was made backwards, with the sheet on top for some reason. There was only one small garbage bin, in the bathroom, and no breakfast, not even a granola bar. I don't know if they use bleach on the towels, but there was a sign asking guests not to use the face clothes for makeup removal, and they provided makeup-removing pads. There are lots of stairs to the second and third floors, and the railing switches sides.

It's beside the chateau, so it may suit older or heavier travelers who don't want to walk far. My room was huge but had very little furniture. The walls had cracked plaster, and the water pressure was really weak. They mentioned a renovation. The male attendant was helpful, though abrupt. I wouldn't stay here again.

The location is great, close to everything, and the area felt safe. The staff were nice too, but for over $300 a night I was disappointed. The hotel feels old and outdated, and several items in the room were damaged. The walls, floor, furniture, and bathroom were all in poor condition. There was no breakfast included or parking, and city parking cost $21 CA per day. The room also didn't get dark at night. The bed was very small, probably a double, and uncomfortable, like an old mattress. The pillows were huge. It didn't look like the photos on the hotel website. At this price, the hotel needs maintenance and upgrades. It's ridiculous.

This was our second time in Quebec. We came in February for the winter carnival, but the location of our previous hotel and the harsh weather meant we missed a lot of what we'd planned. This budget-friendly hotel is a good base for exploring, right in the heart of Old Quebec beside Chateau Frontenac. Terrase Dufferin is two minutes away, the funicular five, Quartier Petit Champlain and the Parliament building about 15 minutes, and the Citadel 20 minutes. La Buche and Aux Anciens Canadiens are a 2-5 minute walk, and Paillard is about 15 minutes away. A parking garage across the street is a two-minute walk and costs 24 CAD per day. Keep expectations in line with the budget. Our room was clean and the beds comfortable, but it needs fresh paint and newer furniture. The cable didn't work, and the hair dryer had seen better days. We were there to see Quebec, not sit in and watch TV. For a reasonably priced stay in a perfect location, with lower expectations, Hotel Jardin du Gouverneur is a good choice. I highly recommend it.

Allison at the front desk was resourceful and very helpful. Our charming room had a balcony looking over a park, and the bed was soft and comfortable, with fresh linens. The bathroom was clean and updated. We were very close to Old Quebec and the Funicular. I'd definitely stay again.
