Hotel Terrasse Dufferin

Stepping outside Hôtel Terrasse Dufferin puts you right in the heart of Old Quebec, on the Dufferin Terrace, with breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River and Château Frontenac. The location really can’t be beat. Our room had a charming historic feel that suited the surroundings, and it was clean and comfortable. The staff were warm and friendly, always ready with tips or help when we needed it. We had a wonderful stay.

The hotel’s greatest strength is its location. It’s a charming, storied place with an affordable river view, next to the famous hotel Frontenac on one side and the toboggan run on the other, right outside the terrace Dufferin and in the heart of old town. The staff were excellent and gave us helpful suggestions for things to do and places to eat. Parking is available for a fee. For a hotel in its class, Terrasse Dufferin is very good, and we’d happily return. If comparing it with hotels of every class, I’d put it around a 3, mostly because it could use some updating. The building is more than 200 years old and very charming, so I didn’t expect the latest modern features. How happy you are may depend on the room and how recently it was updated. Staying there felt like being in a friend’s guestroom, in a good way. Our room was comfortable, spotless, and nice, with good quality, newer mattresses. The portable AC was awkward, and we had to guess how some controls worked. The bathroom fixtures need replacing soon, even though they worked perfectly, and a towel bar would be welcome.

The building has four floors and steep stairs, so if mobility is an issue, ask for a room on a lower level. We could walk everywhere from this perfect location, close to everything but outside the busiest area. Parking was available for $25 a day, which we appreciated. The room was clean and well stocked, with free snacks and drinks. The staff were really friendly and helpful, giving us lots of information about the area and a map of the Christmas markets. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely come back.

The location made it easy to explore Old Quebec, and the staff were warm and helpful. I stayed two nights in an inner room; it was roomy, though the signs of age showed. For Koreans who remember the drama "Goblin" (Dokkaebi), this could be a particularly good place to stay.
