Hôtel Maison Du Général

The room itself was fine, but there wasn’t a single towel or any soap. I would’ve asked for supplies, except nobody was ever at the desk. We were lucky to get checked in at all. On our second night, someone else was trying to check in, but the desk had been unattended all day. I stayed because of the location, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The location is great, and the rooms are quite cute, with a glorious spiral staircase, which makes this a sad experience to report. I arrived late shortly before Christmas and, as a woman traveling alone, was shocked to find my room key taped to the front door with the entry codes written out for anyone to use. There was no cold water in the room. The top of the entry door was broken and ajar, and the deadbolt didn’t work. There was no cleaning service until day four, including no fresh towels, and no drinking water. The front desk was only staffed between 1 and 8 p.m. The restaurant was actually two doors down. I left messages, called the main number, and emailed, but nobody ever got back to me.

The old-fashioned layout and interior made the building feel like another time, and the cozy room had everything we needed. We had a great two-night stay, less than a five-minute walk from town and VERY close to Fairmont Frontenac. Check-in and checkout were easy, and they let us leave our luggage after checkout since our pickup wasn’t until later that day.

Our room was dirty, especially the bathroom, which had black mold and felt so unsanitary that we booked another hotel at the last minute. It cost us significantly more, and the hotel still refused to refund us even though we never used the room. The towels were unacceptable too: there were just two small ones, one visibly dirty, and of the two large towels, one had several holes. I wouldn’t book here. The property doesn’t meet even basic health and safety standards.
