Hampton Inn by Hilton Sarnia/Point Edward

The room was very clean and fresh smelling, with a spotless, almost new-looking bathroom. Parking felt safe, the surroundings were nice, and there's an indoor pool. In the room I had a coffee maker and an iron, handy on a business trip. The hallways and carpets were well maintained too. I arrived late, and the woman at reception was kind and accommodating after a long day. Breakfast was excellent, better than at some other Hilton locations I've tried, with a good selection from around 6 AM to 11 AM, as I remember. Someone kept checking and refilling the buffet and making sure guests were happy. There were also a few TV channels, including a kids' channel, at no extra charge. At another hotel I'd stayed at, I had to scan a QR code and pay to watch TV. Great stay for the price, and I'd come back.

We spent 4 days here as a family, and the drive over was good. I liked the view, especially seeing all the tractor trailers go by since I'm a truck fan. My brother and I also got a room separate from our parents, which was nice. The staff were friendly, the rooms were nice, and the pool and gym were good. Breakfast had a nice range of choices. We didn't get housekeeping even after I removed the do not disturb tag. One chair lost a ball wheel when I rolled it back to the table, but it didn't bother me. 9/10, I'd come back.

I tried to give zero stars. I never stayed there. My mother-in-law was in her final days and passed on the night of Feb11th. I had booked a room for the night of the11th so I could stay in town, but made a mistake with the date. After I realized and called, the hotel said nothing could be done because it was my fault, and that my reason didn't matter. They wouldn't change the booking to that night. So, after losing my mother-in-law just two hours earlier, I drove back to Brantford that night. I don't think I'll ever stay at a Hampton inn again. No heart.

My wife and daughter had been enjoying the stay until the general manager ran out, yelled at us, and got involved in a private conversation between my wife and me. It was completely unprofessional and frightened my daughter. She threatened to call the police because we were talking too loudly on the way to the elevator. I won't return, and neither will family members who know her and have experienced hostile behavior too. Thank goodness for Deb. She assured us they were happy to have us and that this wasn't company policy. Otherwise, we would've left. Thanks, Deb.
