Holiday Inn Express Sarnia - Point Edward by IHG

I was staying here alone for business and won't be back because of serious safety concerns. At 1:15am, a knock woke me. I reached for the light, then the person started banging on the door. Terrified, I checked the peephole and saw Uber eats. I told them they'd got the wrong room, then called the front desk to ask why they'd been allowed onto my floor at that hour. They apologized and said delivery people usually get the room number and are sent up. That still alarms me. Anyone carrying a takeout bag could reach any floor in the middle of the night. Maybe some guests are okay with that, but women should know about this level of access. It felt like staying at a motel. EDIT: The company replied that the policy still lets delivery people go to any floor and any guest's door, just before midnight now. That could still lead to the same thing happening to me, since I was asleep by 11pm. The 'policy' seems to put snack access ahead of safety. My original review stands.

We stopped at Holiday Inn Express Sarnia - Point Edward by IHG before driving across the border to the US on our road trip. The room felt much more spacious than many hotels around the GTA, which made the stay comfortable. It's a great spot, with the waterfront just a short walk away, to relax before getting back on the road. Convenient and pleasant if you're crossing the nearby border.

I booked online through the hotel's website, not realizing it was through a third party. On March 17 at 8:59am, I reserved three days and paid the full amount, unaware I'd selected the non-refundable option. I canceled at 9:11am that same day and explained that family circumstances meant I couldn't go. I thought the refund would come through, but it didn't. When I called, they denied it. After I pleaded my case, they refunded only one night, even though I never set foot in the hotel. I understand the policy, but people make mistakes, and I canceled the same morning to give them notice as soon as possible. Guest relations and several customer care people showed no sympathy. They said a supervisor or manager would call back within two hours, but nobody did, despite my calling several times. If you're in a similar situation, be careful. It feels like these companies just want your money and don't care. I travel for work often and will reconsider supporting this chain. Double-check your booking, or God forbid make a mistake.

I spent a week here recently. The rooms were very clean, well appointed, and the breakfast was well stocked and managed. Every staff member I met was incredibly kind and polite. Highly recommend.
