Comfort Inn Sault Ste. Marie - Canada

We had a lovely night here with our cats, and the bed was fantastic to sleep in. The front desk rep at check-in was friendly and outgoing, which made us feel reassured about choosing this place. There were lots of nearby amenities, and breakfast had a great selection. I have to follow a very strict diet, but still found things I could eat. The only issue was some used cutlery and a pill bottle under the bed.

There are lots of stores nearby, including Pizza Pizza, McDonald's, and Metro, and the hotel is connected to a main road. My room had two queen beds and was amazingly spacious, with a great bathroom and three towels. It also came with a fridge, microwave, TV, iron and ironing board, plus a coffee machine that was broken, hopefully the others work. Pretty good place, right?

The road outside gets busy and our room faced it, so there was some noise. Still, I’d stay here again. The reception lady was very nice, and our room was great, with everything clean and a spotless, modern-looking bathroom. I’m not sure whether the hotel has been renovated recently. The mattresses were very firm, which wasn’t good for my bad hip, though my daughter slept like a log. Breakfast had some nice choices beyond the usual muffin or bagel. It’s only a two-floor hotel and we used the stairs, which was fine for us. Anyone with mobility issues should request a ground-floor room. We stayed on the return drive from Thunder Bay to the GTA, bringing my daughter home from university.

Room 133 smelled unbearably of cat urine, and the couch was soaked in animal urine, which made the room unsanitary. Heavy rain earlier that day left the room warm and extremely humid, making the smell even worse. I tried to stick it out, but left shortly after 9 p.m. Staff offered to move me in the middle of the night, when I was too exhausted to move. I checked out early because I couldn’t bear the room, but there was no refund. They said there were no other rooms available later on. I’ll never book here again, and neither will the 10+ people whose travel I handle.
