Capital Hotel

The parking can be a headache, especially in some seasons when guest spaces seem to be competing with trade shows and conventions. A few of the lot markings look like they haven't been repainted since 2010. Inside, the rooms I've had on floors 2 through 5 show wear, and some toilets need replacing. One flushes very slowly. I mentioned the problem when I was assigned that same room in May this year, then got it again last month and nothing had changed. The owners need to give maintenance more attention. That's not a knock on the staff, who are fine folks. I've been coming to the Capital Hotel in St. John's since 2005, just a year after it opened, and have stayed again for work and personal trips since 2021. Jack's Restaurant serves good meals, and the restaurant staff are very nice. The front desk staff are somewhat friendly too, though they don't greet you when you come in the way staff have at the Sandman, Fairfield and Holiday Inn. Maybe the desk's position in relation to the entrance has something to do with that. The place could use some updating, including the restaurant chairs and tables. Still, I'd stay again. If another hotel were available for the same price, though, I might choose it.

I had the scrambled eggs with ham and hash browns. Those are two seriously thick slices of ham, and the coffee comes in a personal decanter with enough for at least three cups. Wish every restaurant served it that way.

The rooms are lovely and clean, and the prices are easily the best. I just wish there were a microwave. I love staying here!

The staff were great and very accommodating. Everything was very clean. I'd highly recommend it.
