The basic room we booked was really nice, though I wish it had more hooks for clothes and towels. There wasn't a kettle for making tea or coffee either. The location felt unusual: one side of the street was upscale, while the other had a concentration of street people. It seemed pretty safe as long as you don't venture to E Hastings. Steam clock tower and china town are walkable. We had a nice stay.

We found the room comfortable, stylish, and set up with everything we needed. There are loads of good restaurants close by, and Kozak, the Ukrainian place around the corner, is one we'd especially recommend. The location also made it easy to explore downtown Vancouver and Gastown.

The lighting was the one thing that bothered me. It's all bright, cool toned overhead lights, with no lamps, and since the bed is at the far end, you have to cross the room in the dark to reach the switches. Some lamps around the space would make it much more relaxing. Otherwise, this old building has been converted beautifully for long stays. The original floor has been refinished, the chunky wood trim is lovely, and the kitchen and bathroom finishes are good.
