The Magnolia Hotel and Spa

We’ll come back next time we’re in Victoria. The Courtney Room, right in the lobby, was a bonus, with amazing food and drinks. Service was outstanding too, including nightly turndown and a Nespresso machine with milk and cream in the bar fridge. Our room had a fireplace, a clean bathroom, and a very comfortable bed and pillows. The staff, room, and amenities impressed us. It’s a lovely boutique hotel downtown, close to shops, restaurants, and the harbour.

I was only there for one night on a business trip, which was my one disappointment. I’ve stayed in five-star boutique hotels around the world, and Magnolia is easily among my top three hotel experiences. The staff were welcoming and hospitable, always smiling. My updated room was cozy, tastefully decorated, and meticulously clean, with a fireplace. The bathroom was spacious, with a Dyson hairdryer and soft towels, which are rare these days. It was quiet but conveniently located in town. The in-house restaurant, The Courtney, was phenomenal. Breakfast was so good I went back for lunch. I can’t wait to return.

We had a wonderful three-night stay between Christmas and New Year 2025, and celebrated our anniversary with a memorable dinner at the Courtney Room. Sage was pleasant and attentive without hovering, and gave us great menu suggestions. Jack, the sommelier, recommended a stunning Italian white, a Cortese from Villa Sparina. He explained the grape and style, which we hadn’t tried before, and it paired beautifully with our meals. The hotel feels luxurious without any pretension. Our spacious, clean, beautifully appointed room overlooked the corner of Courtney and Gordon. Amy and Alfonso at the front desk were especially charming and helpful, and valet Mike always had our car ready within a few minutes. It’s in a great spot near the inner harbour, the Empress, and Parliament buildings. My wife and I agree we won’t stay anywhere else in Victoria.

Alfonso has been thoughtful and helpful with my hotel bookings, making sure my preferences are taken care of and keeping me updated clearly and on time. His handwritten welcome card makes each visit feel special. The whole team is friendly and helpful too. Highly recommend.
